A Thistle Among Flowers

These are the teachers in my village. The two on the right are my preschool teachers, the two next to them are my computer school teachers and the others are the village Sunday school teachers. All of these ladies were students in my English classes in 2006/2007.

On the final day of my last visit a celebration was held to dedicate the new computer school building and to say goodbye. Lots of damp eyes on all sides again.

The teachers rescued me from yet another oratory long enough to have a group photo taken. With them all dressed in their finest saris, I felt like a thistle in a flower garden. They were smart enough to stand in the shade, but I, mad dogs and Englishmen stand in the midday sun.

I’ve just added 3 more chapters to my Sri Lanka Journal which you can read here.
