A fish seller’s stall at the Sunday Market in Hikkaduwa, Sri Lanka.
Sri Lankan waters abound with a large variety of seafood and there is little regulation of the fishing industry. There are constant skirmishes between Sri Lankan and Indian fishermen with boats and crews routinely being taken into custody by the authorities on both sides. At present there is little danger of over fishing because the employed technologies are quite primitive compared to the rapacious plundering vessels of our Western fishing fleets.
