Balance

This photo was done as part of a project on Balance. The perspective forms a truncated pyramid and nothing says ‘balance’ like a pyramid. The large area of darkness at the bottom is balanced by the more ‘eye catching’ light at the top. And although you can’t see the motion, you know one set of moving steps is going up while the other is coming down, creating equal weight on either side of the stationary stairs. This would probably work for a project on Lines, as well. What other elements do you see? This is the first of a short series featuring stairways, so check back over the next few days if you are interested. Escalators have always seemed threatening to me. No less so this one. It could be a Decepticon lying in wait for some unsuspecting pedestrian.

This was taken at the Seattle Light Rail Station in Tukwila near the SeaTac Airport.
