Morning at the Beach

WP DSC_0639-EditA beach on Tybee Island, Savannah, Georgia. Languidly greeting the morning sun. The morning paper leaving traces of newsprint on my fingers. Need to go up to the shack for another cup of coffee soon.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Foreign

“One of these things is not like the others.” (apologies to Sesame Street and the Presidential campaigns)  In this photo, the “foreign” is not the place or the people – – but ME.

I went to Sri Lanka each year between 2005 and 2010 for a Tsunami village restoration and retraining project. During that time, in addition to the monks and novices from the temple at which I lived, I had acquired a “posse” of villagers.

On this particular day a normal scorcher outdid itself. After it got to above 100 degrees f, we couldn’t take it anymore. I dismissed classes for the day after the computers began to over heat. After the kids went home, my “posse” decided we should go for a swim. We crunched 13 of us into, onto and around three tuk-tuks and lumbered 2 miles to the backpacker/surfer beach at Hikkaduwa where we luxuriated in the cool water for an hour or two before we had to head back to the temple so the monks could officiate at evening puja (services).
